Mr. Baskin is a life long resident of Northern Virginia and has been in the private practice of law since 1976. Mr. Baskin began practicing law in Falls Church, Virginia after receiving both his B.S. degree in Business Administration and his law degree from the University of Richmond. He is a principal of the firm Baskin, Jackson, Hansbarger & Duffett, P.C. and has been a member of this firm or its predecessors since 1976. Mr. Baskin=s primary areas of practice include zoning, land use, civil litigation and general commercial issues. Mr. Baskin is licensed to practice in all trial and appellate courts in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the United States Supreme Court.
Active in both the legal profession and community affairs, Mr. Baskin has served in many organizations throughout his career. Mr. Baskin served as President and on the Board of Directors for the Child Development Center of Northern Virginia, President of the Falls Church Private/Public Partnership, as a Board of Directors= member of United Cerebral Palsy of Washington and Northern Virginia, and the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding director of the Falls Church Education Foundation and served on the Vocational Education and Job Placement Council for George Mason High School. In 1999, Mr. Baskin was appointed to the Charter Review Committee by the Falls Church City Council to recommend changes to the City=s charter.
Mr. Baskin=s participation in organizations within the legal community mirrors his strong commitment to maintaining high standards for legal practitioners. He was on the Board of Directors for the Fairfax Bar Association from 1982 - 1990, Treasurer in 1986, and served as President in 1988. He was also a member of the Virginia State Bar Council from 1989 - 1995, has served on the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, the Judicial Evaluation Committee, the Judicial Screening Committee, as a Professionalism Course instructor and served as a panelist for Continuing Legal Education Ethics seminars. Mr. Baskin has served as a Commissioner in Chancery since 1988 and as a Neutral Case Evaluator for the Fairfax County Court since 1993.
While Mr. Baskin=s 28 years of experience as a practicing attorney covers a broad array of legal matters, his primary emphasis is in the areas of zoning, land use and civil litigation. Within the field of zoning and land use, Mr. Baskin handles matters ranging from obtaining variances and special permits from Boards of Zoning Appeals and handling appeals to Boards of Zoning Appeals, to rezonings, special exceptions, site plans and subdivisions. His clients have included individual homeowners, builders, developers, and businesses that have needed a wide variety of local government approvals. Additionally, Mr. Baskin has represented numerous churches on zoning issues such as special permits, rezonings and special exceptions as well as litigation matters. In addition to his zoning and land use practice, Mr. Baskin has an active civil trial practice in the state courts of Virginia.
As with all of the attorneys in the firm, Mr. Baskin maintains an AV rating, the highest rating obtainable by the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory. Mr. Baskin is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Arlington and Fairfax Bar Associations, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Baskin lives in Vienna, Virginia with his wife, Jill, and children, Gunnar and Molly. He and his family are outdoor enthusiasts enjoying bicycling, skiing, fly-fishing, tennis and hiking. |
