Martha F. Mothershead

Martha Mothershead joined Baskin, Jackson & Lasso, P.C. in October of 2011.  A licensed attorney since 1985, Martha practiced in Michigan after attending University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where she received the Order of Barristers award for excellence in courtroom advocacy. Her practice currently focuses on elder law and landlord-tenant matters, though she has experience in a wide range of matters including business and non-profit start-ups, and estate planning and probate litigation. She appears regularly in state courts of all northern Virginia jurisdictions.

Martha offers pre- planning and crisis planning services designed to help clients apply and qualify for Medicaid benefits, and establish special needs trusts for the disabled.  Martha is an authorized Guardian ad litem for incapacitated  adults in Fairfax County and Arlington County, Virginia.

Martha has always been an active community volunteer, has served on several non-profit educational boards, and is a past-president of the George Mason High School PTSA.  She formerly served as a volunteer literacy tutor with the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia.  Martha has also been a featured speaker on residential landlord-tenant issues at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, and has taught landlording classes at local continuing education seminars and Lawline.com.
